Menu shown when disk inserted

when a disk or usb stick is inserted the Menu shown does not allow me to
make a default selection (no tick box)
How can I resolve this?

Hold the shift key down while you plug it. Meanwhile Microsoft
appears to think that it should no be up the user to decide if
this thing shall happen or not: Holding down the shift key doesn't
work anymore under Vista...

For permanentely disable autorun and autoplay get Microsoft

My Computer -> AutoPlay -> Types

Uncheck as wished.
