Hi,

Could someone please help me?

I cannot insert an object (embed an object) in a MS Word 2007 document. When
I select the Insert...Object menu and select some file to be inserted and be
shown with an icon, the MS Word frezzes when I click on the OK button and I
need to force it to close.

I already run the Office Diagnostics tool and no problem was found.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Teresa

Hi Stefan,

no, I cannot insert objects in wordpad either. However, the problem is
intermitent. Some times I can and some times not.

Thanks,
Teresa

Hmm, intermittent problems are of course very difficult to troubleshoot...

Are you saying that it happens only when you insert an object from a file or
does it happen even if you create a new object? Which specific type of
object is affected?

When did the problem start? At that time, had you made any changes to the
computer (such as installing updates, new applications)?

Hi Stefan,

This problem started one month ago I think. I didn't do any update, but I
receive hot fixes from the network that have their installations running
automatically.

When I had this problem the first time I run the Microsoft Office
Diagnostics and restarted the PC. It didn't work. So I saw an article in a
forum saying that the problem might be related to the monitor drive in Dell
Notebooks, and for testing purposes, I should decrease the Hardware
Acceleration for the graphics hardware. I did that by the display properties
window and then I finally could insert an object in a Word document.

However, few days ago the problem appeared again and the change of the
hardware acceleration no longer worked. In addition, I discovered that I
cannot insert objects in an Excel spreadsheet either.

The problem occurs when I try to insert an object from a file using the
Insert Object command or copying and pasting the file from the Windows
Explorer into my document.

The type of objects that I try to insert are text files and zip files.

Thanks,

Are you saying that you can insert, say, an Excel object in Word without
problems? Does it make a difference if you create a new object or insert a
file?

Beyond that, I have no more suggestions, unfortunately. :-(

I think you will have to ask this question in the Word Application Errors
newsgroup (microsoft.public.word.vba.application.errors).

I found a way. Use Insert Object then select Create New and select "Package"
from
the list and select the "Display as Icon" box. Click OK - then the Object
Packager opens up - select File->Import and browse to your zip file. Close
Object Package and yes to update dialog box. Then to edit the caption
"Package" to a more useful name - select the package in your document, right
mouse click and select "Convert". Click the Change Icon" button and edit the
caption.

Cheers Pam
