Dragging a Document from Explorer to Word to embed it as an Object

Hello,
I am using MS Office 2007. My computer has duel monitors setup.

Monitor one has an open Word document. Monitor two has explorer open with
all my folders/documents shown.

My goal is to embed an excel spreadsheet, as an object ,into the Word
document.

I have tried dragging the excel document from explorer into the Word
document. Instead of embedding it as an icon, it pastes the contents of the
excel document into the word document (not what I wanted).

We can certainly use the INSERT OBJECT as a means to do this but we are
looking for a simplier (shortcut) way to accomplish this. Is there a setting
in explorer that can be changed or some other easier way to do this?

Any help is much appreciated! Thank you.

Right click on the file in Explorer and select copy and then in the Word
document, use Paste>Special, check the Paste link radio button and check the
Display as icon box.
