Go to windows update> select custom updates> drivers> when it scans for what you may need, see if the devise is in the list if so download and install, I take it you have updated windows XP.
What make is the drive?
Did you recently buy it or did the problem suddenly appear after using it for a while?
If you recently bought it try updating your drivers (probably not solution since you tried it on many PC's or take it back to where you got it from
If you had it for a while then you probably don't use safely remove hardware option to remove it, try taking it to a hardware technician or to the shop if you have a warranty to fix it.
