So that’s the machines as is at the moment.
The last one (Perseus) I call my media machine, currently loading all my CD’s to mp3 on it and also converting all my movie DVD’s to DivX on a hard drive partition.
It’s likely that in the future I’ll need another hard drive plus there’s backup to consider.
However, the movies look really great, the mp3’s sound ok and it sure as hell saves on storage space.
I’m hoping, soon, to get a Samsung 32” TV with PC input to replace the BenQ 19” monitor (the monitor’s just a temp thing) but right now I honestly can’t afford £550.00 so I’m just loading stuff onto the hard drive for now. Of course I can watch/listen to it, but a 19” monitor ain’t the best viewing compared to a 32” TFT TV.
The Hi Fi the sound goes through is:
Cambridge Audio Azur 640A Amplifier 70W x 2
Kef Cresta Loudspeakers on Gale mid height stands
Cambridge Audio Azur 640C CD Player
NAD 4020A FM/AM Analogue Tuner (Circa 1981)
NAD 613 Cassette Deck
I-Pod docking station
I’m going to post some pix, some are in my living room, some are in my bedroom.
I’m not proud of where I’m living atm, it’s a council place.
I owned my own place since ’79 but falling out with wife person lost me the whole deal with only three years to go to actually owning the place.
Such is life.
Whatever, I haven’t bothered decorating this place much cos I hope to get rehoused soon, but I’m just making excuses for my craphole of a flat cos I be a bit embarrassed
Actually, it ain’t too bad, it’s warm, it’s dry, it’s secure, it’s peaceful, guess it could be worse.
Enough of the excuses, on wiv da pix
The main machine – Shiny Beast:
Andromeda. This one lives in the bedroom and sits on the floor:
Installing the Noctua fan to Andromeda:
Bedroom workbench. This bench belonged to my supervisor when I worked for the GLC. When Thatcher shut us down I took the bench as a keepsake. It ain’t pretty, but it’s practical – it’s a male thang
Similarly, the wooden structure to the right of it is a clothing display from Matalan at Charlton. They slung a load out one day, out the back of the store so as I drove past I loaded one on to my roof bars. Again, not exactly Chic, but practical. No woman here at present so who gives a monkeys anyways? The main thing is – it works
Some AV stuff, NAD Receiver; Aiwa Cassette Deck, Toshiba DVD Player.
The receiver plays through a pair of cheapo Bush speakers and actually sounds quite respectable. The Aiwa cassette deck is channeled into Andromeda for recording stuff to WAV or mp3 along with out put from two VCR’s, the DVD player, and a turntable.
The workbench showing Oscilloscope, Power supply and soldering iron:
These are: Audio record selector for Andromeda; Netgear Router/Modem; Phono Preamp; DVI KVM Switch.
And
NAD Receiver; Aiwa Casette Deck; Toshiba DVD Player
Atares, side shot:
Perseus Hi Fi system:
Workbench/bedroom pix
KVM & Stuff and two VCR’s:
Of course, can also record from one VCR to another if need be. This sometimes helps in restoring cassttes that have become somewhat knackered over the years.
And there ya go, that’s about it, Flops’ little multi media world
