Media Player doesn't work

I use my media player all the time and I have only just started getting this problem where I can't open the program at all. All my music file icons have changed too. They used to look like small media player icons, now they are totally different, like a document page with three small shapes inside it (thats the icon I'm talking about

Any help would be greatly appreciated
