How do I keep windows media player 9 from starting
automatically when I log on to Windows XP?

Hi nichomar,

Look in your (Start / All Programs) Startup Folder and if
you see a shortcut there to WMP 9, or to a media file that
WMP 9 is playing at each startup, just delete that shortcut. :-)

Hi Nichomar,

Do not uninstall / reinstall WMP before trying these 2 steps:

1. Use a Startup Utility to remove WMP from the RUN list
in your registry: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

2. Double-check for advice in the WMP newsgroup located at:

| >Jimmy,
| Thanx for your response. When mp9 starts, no file starts
| playing, the program is just ready for use. I found no
| shortcut for mp9 in my start up location. *I'm thinking
| of uninstalling the program and reinstalling it at the
| risk of losing all my media files as a last resort, but I
| also wonder if this may be a waste of time at the risk of
| the problem re-occuring.
| Do you think the uninstall/reinstall may work?

Hey Jimmy S.
Your advice has proven to be successful.
I installed the deinstal program and the startup utility.
After running them both and restarting my box, everything
has returned to normal operation.
I thank you for your help.
Have a great xmas season!
