media player 8

when i double click on media player 8 icon i get a beep,
and nothing happens. no error message.

if i double click any media file i get a message

wmplayer.exe
windows cannot fild 'wmplayer.exe'.make sure you typed the
name correctly, and then try again. etc etc
it is where it is supposed to be.

i have logged on as administrator and dissabled it then
re-enabled it. no change.
i have deleted the wmplayer.exe file from the C:\Program
Files\Windows Media Player\ folder.
XP replaces it. it still does not work.

any ideas
