Mediaplayer doesn't start any more

I have the problem that the mediaplayer doesn't start any more. I can
double-click a media file (assigned to be handled by MediaPlayer) or even
double-click the file 'C:\Programme\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe' and
nothing happens.

I have already tried to reinstall that windows component but with no
success.

Any hints?
