Media Player 10: Almost plays DVD, but not quite.

On my XP Pro box, Media Player 10 will open up a movie DVD and render both it's
menu and scraps of the content - a little audio even - but its all as if the
drive were hopelessly slow... and it isn't.

Should Media Player 10 be able to render a DVD movie properly?

If so, any ideas about what I might be lacking/doing wrong?

I suggest you post to the media player newsgroup.

Oops. Now I see it: a PlugIn is required.

Guess this is a topic for alt.video.dvd.software...

WMP anything does NOT come with the required
MPEG-2 and/or AC-3 codecs necessary to play
back a DVD (licensing issues). Those have to come with a third-party
DVD player like WinDVD. WMP will use them AFTER
you install the DVD player software.

If you're having trouble with DVD playback in WMP,
go look for problems in your DVD playback software
as well as in WMP.

Usual fix often has to do with turning down hardware acceleration.
