Meaning of Black Exclaimation Mark in Yellow Circle on Defender Ic

I have installed Defender (Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1051.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1185.0, Signature Version: 1.0.0.0). After doing so, I
noticed the Defender Icon, in the Windows System Tray, has a black
exclaimation point in a yellow circle. This looks like a warning since
Defender seems to be working. However, I noticed that a message on the
Defender window saying "Windows Defender defintions haven't been updated in
119 days. I clicked the "Check for Updates" button on the same window and
eventually get a Windows Defender comment bubble that says "Windows Defender
found no new definitions or engine updates available." What does the
exclaimation point indicate and why can't I update Defender?

Hello tginnys,

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
adinistratºr.

This is the key!
The installation as an admin is not enough.
You needed to login as an admin.

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature update
with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

I'd try running a chkdsk to see if there are any problems that need
identifying. And again, the administrative tools Event Viewer is also good at
identifying problems immediately. If a message appears with that icon matches
the event viewer, then it is something different.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.
