I purchased a Dell computer with a 3 month trial of McAfee on it, I didn't
want this so I deleted it. (So I thought) now every time I switch on the
computer, I get "McAfee corrupt re-install" I can't do this as I don't have
the original disk. I have tried to delete in control panel and in Program
files, but it won't let me do this. My question is: Can I go into regedit and
just delete it under software as it is there, will this stop it putting up
the pop ups? I have tried deleting it from the start up menus.
THANK YOU

Hi

Contact the supplier of your PC - otherwise you're looking at a 'Clean'
install of XP.

Yes, you can remove it with regedit, though removing the McAfee folder under
software won't affect the Run keys under
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run or stop the services or
delete the files. Consequently you'll still be likely to get error
messages.

So, a better choice to start with is to follow McAffee's instructions for
manually removing its products after failed uninstalls, such as this:

http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq.asp?frames=1&docid=68717&CategoryId=245&chat

This includes a file that will remove the registry entries and directions
for deleting the files that have been left behind.

If there are still files that cannot be removed, note the names. Make sure
that any McAfee services are not set to run; right click on My COmputer,
choose Manage. Click on Services and Applications. Find any McAfeee
services and set them to Disabled and Stopped.

Restart in Safe Mode as administrator, then try deleting the files again.
Once done, shut down and restart normally.

Thank you Patrick
That solved my problem, I thought the advice from Will was a bit drastic.
THANK YOU AGAIN
