MB wont post after SCSI controller install

Hi all,

I purchased an IBM - SERVERAID 4L ULTRA160 SCSI RAID CONTROLLER CARD
(part # 37L6091). I installed this card into my pci slot and the MB
will not post now. The monitor will not become active (i.e. yellow
light...not green), and all the diagnostic leds on the controller card
are on.

I have removed all PCI devices from all slots and removed all IDE
devices. The problem remains. Could anyone point me in the right
direction on how to diagnose and solve this problem.

BTW - the mb is out of a DELL Dimension 8100.

Thanks in advance

Does that mainboard have a built-in scsi controller on it? If so, did you
enter the BIOS setup screens to disable it before you installed the new scsi
controller in a PCI expansion slot? -Dave

Dave,

This MB does not have on board SCSI. I checked the MB setup and did
not find anything related to SCSI. Any other thoughts/sugestions?

Thanks

Does this card work in any *other* system? The card could be defective...

Check to see if any of the memory or video card came loose when inserting the new card. A board
can flex a little bit when inserting cards. Make sure everything is seated tight. Another thing to
try is to remove the power connector from the board and re-attach. The video card bios is usually
first to kick in during the boot process so if that has come out of its slot alittle that will keep
everything else from starting up.

If all else fails - remove the offending card and see if the MB returns
to a working status.

I've had the same problem in the past, and it turned out to be an
insufficient power supply. However, in my case, the PC would boot if I
disconnected all drives, thereby making more power available to the
SCSI card. That doesn't seem to have helped in your case, so I would
suspect a defective card. To be sure, you could try it in another PC.
