i'm trying to network a toshiba laptop with a wireless "module" built
into it with a pc running a microsoft broadband router also wireless.

both units are running xp and the problem i'm having is that while i'm
trying to tweak some other programs unrelated to the networking ,it drops
connection to the laptop , it doesn't access the other computer or the
internet ,, meanwhile the pc can't access the laptop but can the
internet.

the longest i've had it running before it drops is around 30-40 minutes
and then to get it back up i have to wait or reboot the laptop.

any suggestions as to what it could be??

also if i plug the laptop straight to the network cable instead of going
wireless it runs fine.

could it be the router refreshing itself automatically that sets
everything off??

thanks , gord

in response to your question - yes it could be the refresh
it could also be a couple of other things as well
My 1st question would be who makes the wireless module for
you laptop (I'm pretty shure it's not toshiba)
2nd question is what brand of wireless router you have.
3rd question is are they using the same standard?
make shure that the router and the module are using the
same standard - cuz there at least 3 different ones out
there.
If it turns out that yes they are using the same standard
then you could have a compatabiilty issue
check your downloads at toshiba for the laptop you bought
and see if there are any new drivers for the wireless
module.
Worse comes to worse - send a tell to Toshiba's Customer
service group give them the model of laptop the OS you are
running and the model of Wireless router and see what they
say.

tried the refresh , didn't work

checked it out the best i could ,, just say Toshiba in the device mgr the
driver is by Agere Systems and there is some mention about Texas
Instruments in the controller part of the adapter box
2nd question is what brand of wireless router you have.

it's microsoft's M500(?) wireless broadband router
3rd question is are they using the same standard?

standard's?? not sure on that one

Checked , didn't see any new ones.

Strange thing , is that when you plug the little Microsoft Usb wireless
satellite in it stays connected longer , but still drops after awhile.

There was a recent firmware update for this hardware.

Also, there is a newsgroup on this server specifically for MS Broadband
hardware (the link may wrap, be sure to copy the whole thing to your
