Maybe an MVP can look at this and respond

Hello,

I posted this question 2 days ago and no one has taken the initiative to
answer it. Perhaps one of you MVPs will take a moment to help out:

I have a document that uses a template that contains a style named 'desc.'
'desc' uses uses a Verdana 9pt font. I did some editing in various places in
the document, saving it several times in the process. I just noticed that
all of the paragraphs that use the 'desc' style have been changed to an 8.5
pt font; however, a new paragraph using the 'desc' style still uses a 9 pt
font. Is this a bug, or have I inadvertently done something to cause this
problem?

Thanks,

Keith Brickey

Presumably no one has answered because no one has a clue how this could
happen. What happens if you select the paragraph in question (the one with
8.5-pt Verdana) and press Ctrl+Spacebar?

The first part would happen if the style were set up to update
automatically. (Format > Style > Modify: Automatically Update). If this is
checked, any change you make to a paragraph of the given style is applied to
all paragraphs of that style. This would explain why all your 'desc' files
were changed to 8.5pt. But that would apply to all new paragraphs of the
style also.

It could have happened like this:

1. You changed (presumably unknowingly) the paragraph definition to
'Automatically Update'.
2. You changed one 'desc' paragraph to 8.5 pt.
3. You set the paragraph style back to 9pt and cleared the Automatically
Update checkbox for the style.

There's also a possible sequence of events involving closing and re-opening
the document, if 'Automatically update template styles' is checked on the
Templates and Add-ins dialog.
