Maxtor 160 GB Hard Drive Slows Down

After loading windows sp 1a, my hard drive is recognised
as 160 gb rather than 137gb. The drive slows down to a
sandra index of 2400 (from 36000). I have tried everything
to rectify this. The bios of my ASUS A7A133 has been
flashed and recognises the drive correctly. Please assist.

Have you defragged since you did the installs? Presume you
are running NTFS.

Have you checked device manager for problems? The drive
should be on an IDE channel alone or with another hard
drive, a CD or DVD will slow access times if they are
sharing the same cable.
Also, right click MY Computer and select manage and check
out the drive.
