160 maxtor "ultra seies" question re ATA card???

I am interested in purchasing a second hard drive(160 GB Maxtor) to
use as a drive dedicated to video editing.

The Maxtor box indicates it comes with an "ultra ATA/133 PCI card"

My question is - will I have to install this PCI card on my 2 year old
Dell 8200 Pentium 4 XP, or is it packaged only for PCs with older
systems.

Will my Dell8200 be compatible with this Maxtor 160 mb hard drive or
will the hard drive have compatibility problems.??

Thanks or your help!

Check with Dell to see whether your motherboard will support the 166gb
drive. I have an el cheapo ECS motherboard and it fully supports my 200gb
Maxtor drive from the primary IDE port, at the correct speed (ATA133)
without the card having to be installed.

Install SP1 and add the registry entry as described in

Andy,

The MS KB article you reference specifically states:

You must meet the following requirements to use 48-bit LBA ATAPI support:
a.. You must have a 48-bit LBA compatible BIOS.
b.. You must have a hard disk that has a capacity that is greater than 137
GB.
c.. You must have Windows XP SP1 installed.

Therefore if the BIOS does not support 48 bit LBA, it will not work.
