Margin settings for Plain Text in Outlook 2003 with Word as Editor

I'm chalking this one up to the utterly bizzare. The theory is that if
you're sending in plain text that means there is no formating.
Unfortunately that theory fails when challenged by Office 2003.

Here's the setup:

Using Outlook 2003 with Word 2003 as the editor, when I go to reply to
an e-mail that is in plain text the margins are set so if I try to
print the message about 1/4" of text goes off each side. If I turn off
using Word as the editor the issue goes away.

I cannot find a single setting anywhere that sets margins for plain
text in Word, but clearly there is something. My boss thinks he
remembers a similar problem a couple of years ago at another company,
but can't find the TechNet article or any other leads.

Has anyone else seen something like this, and if so have you found a solution?

Thanks,

D

Hi D,

Based on my testing with outlook 2003/Word 2003:
1. Use Word as email editor > switch the message format from HTML to Plain Text > the context will be indent in the left.
2. However, when you print the HTML format message or the Plain Text format message, the print out is same. There are margins on the left
which is according to the setting in Word.
3. Not use Word as email editor > switch the message format from HTML to Plain Text > the context will not be indent in the left.
4. Print it out. It will use the Outlook editor to print it out and no additional margin is printed out.

If you want to keep using Word as email editor and would like to print out the reply plain text format message with less margin, I recommend
you to perform the steps below to workaround it.
======================
1. Reply a plain Text format message.
2. Switch it as a HTML format.
3. Click the File menu > Page Setup > in the Margins tab, decrease the left margin as you want.
4. Print it out.

Thanks for your understanding and patience. If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Emily Lin
