Many Processes

In windows task manager under Processes, I have about 50 processes running. A friend told me I should only have about 12-15. I'm guessing that this is why my computer is slow. On thing I noticed , when I click on my user name, it takes several minutes to load preferences where it used to be quite sudden. How can I stop these processes (most of which I never heard of) from loading everytime I start up?

I have got 48 running processes right now, and she is
running like a top.
Anyway Type mcinfo32 into Run and then Check out
Software Enviroment to find out what some of your
processes are from or for.

The computationally correct Jupiter Jones has some tips on the subject as
well as some other ways to improve a computer that should be running faster
at his awesome Web site.

Go to www.activewin.com and look for the XP section. There should be a
reference to a listing of services you can turn off.

Roy,

If you're unsure about the many processes you see, get Process Explorer (free)
from <http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml>. Provides way
more information than Task Manager, including what modules are called by a
process, and who wrote or distributed each module.

For information about services (background processes), I use BlackViper's
website <http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/OSguides.htm>. For information
about known foreground processes, Sysinfo
<http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php> is useful.

Cheers,
Chuck

Your friend is smoking crack.
However.. I normally only have 28-45 depending on what I am doing.
