Manually download definintions

Hi

I cannot access Windows Update through my corporate firewall so I would like
to be able to manually download and update the definitions. Is there
somewhere I can download updated definitions?

Thanks

Not that I've heard of. You might try transplanting the .msi file found in
the intallation folder from an updated location. I've no idea how that will
work, though.

Hi,

A .ZIP archive of the updater can be downloaded from here:

http://rapidshare.de/files/14055113/MPAS-FE.zip.html

inside is MPAS-FE.msp which is the latest version of the updater for WD.

This was captured from a Windows Update session which downloaded the latest
WD update.

Unzip this file and then run the enclosed MPAS-FE.msp file.

Kind Regards

Simon

Simon - it is risky behavior to download a binary from an anonymous poster
who states that the file is safe.

I'd prefer that we not "train" users here in that behavior. Additionally,
it is quite possible that there are licensing issues involved in
re-distributing Microsoft binaries not licensed for such redistribtuion.

I don't doubt at all that your intentions are good--and I'm very glad you've
found this method, but I'd advise folks not to pick up binaries offered
through newsgroup links by anonymous posters.

Hi Bill,

You do bring up interesting points and the licencing issue is one that I did
concider.

Given that this WD update file is freely available via Windows Update and
through the Update option in WD, I think that MS would probably not object
to me posting it.

However I do stand to be corrected and if anyone from MS does object then
then can post a follow-up here, (or send a e-mail), and I will refrain from
doing this again.

As for anonymous, then that is easily rectified, my e-mail address is:

(e-mail address removed).*no-spam*uk

Please remove the *no-spam* to get the unmunged address. I had quite
forgotten than my e-mail address was omited from this servers postings, this
has now been rectified.

Kind Regards

Simon Zerafa
