My internal hard drive is getting ready to crash. Is
there a way to make a mirror image copy to my external
drive and to make the external drive the boot drive?
.
Unless you want to adapt a parallel internal IDE drive for
use as an external HDD, you would purchase a USB or
FireWire external drive and install it by following the
instructions that came with it.
Usually you just plug it into the USB or FireWire port and
allow Windows to install the drivers or request a driver
CD.
To set the drive as the boot drive, you have to enter the
BIOS (see this page if you don't know what that is:
http://www.pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/Bios.htm) and set it as the
boot drive in the boot order. As long as the BIOS
recognises the drive at start-up, you'll be able to set it
as the boot drive.
