Making a change in account program access

B

Bugsy

I am rebuilding my computer after a crash and an OS reinstall (Windows XP
Home).

I set up two accounts: one for me, and one for my wife, both with
"Administrator Privileges".

After installing a new program today ("MyAlert" - a "reminder" program), it
shows up both on my "account" and on her "account".

How can I eliminate it from operating on her account?

Thanks in advance.

First off, this is a question you should be addressing to the programs author.

That said, try the following.

On your Start menu, navigate up to where it says Startup.
Right click on Startup and select Open All Users from the menu.
Go back and right click on Startup again except this time select Open from the
menu.
You should now have these two folders opened, substituting the name of your user
account where it says YOURACCOUNT.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\YOURACCOUNT\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

There should be a shortcut that launches the reminder program in the All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder.

Move it to the YOURACCOUNT\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder. Bottom line, you
want to have a copy of the shortcut in your folder and not have one in the All
Users folder. Having it in the All Users folder means that it will launch
whenever any account logs on. That's why it shows up for your wife's account.

Restart your computer and see if the reminders still show up for your wife.

Also, you're probably going to find that the desktop shortcut for this program
show's up on your wife's desktop as well as yours. Similar to what you did with
the shortcut in the Startup folder, you need to move the shortcut from the All
Users\Desktop folder into the YOURACCOUNT\Desktop folder. Here are the two
folders you should locate to move the desktop shortcut.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

C:\Documents and Settings\YOURACCOUNT\Desktop

Good luck

COOL!

It worked precisely as you outlined, and the reminder program AND shortcut
is now only available in MY account.

Now when the computer reminds me of our anniversary she won't know that it
wasn't ME that remembered! LOL

Thanks a million for the help.
