hello wise people
i have windows xp home, and in my taskbar, there is a
little double-monitor icon just like the one that pops up
when i'm connected to the internet, but this one has a red
x through it, when i hover my mouse over it, it
says "local area connection a network cable is unplugged"
but i don't have a local area connection. how do i get
rid of the icon in the system tray?

I remember that one...

Control Panel
Network Settings
Right-click Local Area Connection, click Disable

Side note: If the regular icon ever disappears while you're on-line
and you need to disconnect, you can go in this area and right-click on
your ISP.
