System Tray Icon "Network Cable Is Unplugged"

I have an icon in the system tray of two computers with a red cross through
it. When I move the cursor over it the message displayed is "Local Area
Connection - A network cable is unplugged".

However, I do not have a wired network, I only have a wireless network for
internet access which works fine.

If I open my Network Connections I have displayed:-

Under Internet Gateway:

Internet Connection
Connected
Internet Connection

Under LAN or High-Speed Internet:

Wireless Network Connection
Connected
Belkin 54g Wireless USB Network Adapter

Local Area Connection
Network cable unplugged
Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection

Is there any way that I can get rid of, or stop this icon being displayed?

According to the information below, you have a LAN adapter. See also

Disable that LAN adapter in the device manager or leave it as is.

Right-click on the Local Area Connection shortcut then choose Properties. Go
to the General tab and uncheck the checkbox beside "Notify me when this
connection has limited or no connectivity."

The icon is telling you that you have a wired network connection without a
cable plugged into it. That is apparently correct, since you are using a
wireless connection instead.

That's perfectly normal, and doesn't represent a problem at all. My laptop
has both a wired and a wireless connection, and I see the same thing when I
use my wireless connection.

Just ignore the icon.
