mAJOR WINDOWS 2000 PROF. PROBLEM

I purchasd a used Intel Celeron 466 mhz, 128 mb computer
off ebay. System came install with Windows 2000
Professional, and on this All prgrams offered by AOL 9.0
with disk for 3 month free internet access. I attempted
to download a McAfee 2004 edition security system. The
program took but when I attempted a virus scan the
computer locked up. I un-installed the software. I un-
installed "ALL" AOL software and componets and downloaded
a disk from a "local" internet provider that I had been
using on my Windows 95 computer. The internet download
was complete and I was able to get online but when I
attempted to install "ALL" remaining software pertaining
to this Internet PRovider the computer locks up. I
cannot do anything. I'm at the end of my rope can anyone
help me ? Thank you. I believe this system may have
been from a Office lease program. The Hard drive was
upgraded to a Seagate SCSI Hard drive, and I believe the
memory was upgraded to the 128 mb.

Best to wipe the drive and start over. You'll want to boot the Windows 2000
setup disks or CD-Rom. The set of four install disks can be created from
your Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom
and execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow
the prompts.

Then *F6* very early and very important (at setup is inspecting your system)
in the setup to prevent drive controller detection, and select S to specify
additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to insert the manufacturer
supplied Windows 2000 driver for your ultra SCSI controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.
