major problems after ms service pack2 installation

I installed service pac 2 and did not make a backup disk,
I know not real smart. After installing pac 2 I figured
out I did not need it and un-installed it. Well, in the
process I update message from Dell telling me I could
speed up my start up process by making some changes and
once again I did not completly read before acting. I made
the changes by starting my computer up in some kind of
safe mode for start up programs and everything has gone to
hell since. I have tried to restore back to before I
installed pac 2 but it will not let me go back before I
installed pac2. Like I said, my computer that was running
fine before is running like crap now. It is really, really
slow starting up(over 3 minutes), will not shut off
without 2 or 3 messages popping up and manually having to
click on them. Please tell me what I can do to get my
computer back to where it was before. Thanks.
