Major Incoming Pop3 Error (Could it be the wireless?!?!?)

G

Guest

Here's the summary:
My laptop is connected to my wireless home lan through a linksys router.
The network is fine, internet access is fine and OUTOOK EXPRESS WORKS!
However, I got the upgrade to use Outlook 2003, and it will not work! I've
rechecked every setting, called Comcast, called Linksys, and called every
techno-geek I can find!
Here's exactly what happens: I go to test the settings, and the first two
items are checked off (outgoing). Then, the next two items (incoming pop3)
are completely skipped, and the fifth item causes some sort of error that
closes the program out completely!!! (then restarts outlook all over again...)
If I just click 'send/recieve' the 'sending' portion gets a green check.
However, recieving produces the following error: 0x800421A.
What can I do? I've turned off all firewalls, including those in the router
(which I'm not happy about!). I've also uninstalled and completely
reinstalled twice, including the servicepacks. Ports 100 and 25 are set
correcly, and as I said, Outlook express continues to work!!! I can't figure
this out!!! Why will express work and not outlook!?!?!?!?!?!

Thanks in advance,
A VERY frustrated Kim

look in the event viewer - is there any information there? was this a clean
install or did you upgrade over an older version? did you import the
accounts? does it work if you don't test the settings?

Event Viewer: Not sure how to check that!
Clean Install: Had office 2003 previously, but it was the one that came with
the computer. During install, we clicked the option to remove all existing
programs, and write the new ones in. Then, after it didn't work twice, we
reinstalled a third time, but we uninstalled the office suite first. (The
most recent install was a clean one...)
Import accounts: Tried that. Then tried creating a new one. Then deleted
both and started over with the Comcast Technician. He said it was the
router, so all email settings were reverified by the Linksys tech, including
the port forwarding on the router.
Work alone: Nope. If we try to send/recieve we only get through step one.
Step two times out with the error code I listed above (however, I forgot the
zero before the A in the code I typed in earlier!). As I said, if we try to
test it, it fatal errors and closes the program. It doesn't say why or stop
responding. It just flashes to the 'Send Error' screen in Windows. It
completely skips the steps for recieving! It never even tries them or sais
'processing.' It just jumps to the fifth step and shuts down.
Also, I've tried having the account log us in for the outgoing (though the
problem is at the recieving end) to no avail. I've also tried switchin us to
internet explorer...then back to lan as the connection type.

Sending: We were getting a check next to sending, but he tried to actually
send a message, but it's stuck in the outbox. Looks like neither end is
working...

find and delete the srs file for starters. do you have more than one account

look in the progress viewer - it's at the bottom of the send /receive menu.
stuck mail has several reasons - one common one is the search tools from
Google and msn. if the message can't be sent because it can't talk to the
server, it'll tell you.

It's only one account, and is the file called 'srs'? It's my boyfirend's
laptop, and though he wants it fixed, it would be very bad if I deleted the
wrong thing! (Which I'm known to do!!!) Will this affect Outlook Express in
any way? Since that's still working, he'd rather give up on '03 than have me
lose express...
As for the progress viewer...there is no information. It gives me a green
check for the first task, and sais 'processing' for the second, with the
result being the error code. It is claiming that it was unable to
communicate...that the server timed out.
