Incoming mail POP3 server

I administer several email accounts on different
workstations. They are all set up with their appropriate
incoming mail POP3 servers (for example
mail.thiscompany.com or mail.thatcompany.com). Over time
Outlook Express changes the POP3 server name
to "localhost". For the most part each account can still
receive incoming mail. But every couple of days accounts
will randomly receive an error that the POP3 server is not
responding.

I can fix this by changing the server name
from "localhost" back to it's original name
mail.thiscompany.com.

Some computers need this fix daily, some once a week, some
less frequently.

Is there a way to avoid this problem.

This is due to your antivirus software, not Outlook itself. See if the mfr.
has an upgraded version that handles mail scanning in a more intelligent
manner or get another product that does...some may suggest disabling mail
scanning entirely, which will certainly get rid of the problem, but
personally I advise against that approach as I think it's best to have as
many layers of protection as you can....

Ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup. It's your antivirus program doing
this.
