Outlook 2002 Can't Connect to POP3 Server?

Periodically whenever I double click on the Send/Receive
button I get the error message "can't connect to incoming
POP3 server. Contact your program provider or your ISP
provider."

My ISP is Roadrunner and they only support Outlook
Express. However, whenever they lead me through the same
proccess using Outlook Express it works!! Does anyone
know what's happening here and how I might overcome this
problem whenever it occurs? My system is Windows XP
Professional and I use MS Office XP.

I suspect that were you to use Outlook Express on a regular basis you'd find
that it also periodically had problems connecting. There's something in
your network that will sometimes prevent you from connecting, but it's going
to be hard to figure out just what it is. I'd start by checking any
firewall or anti-virus/anti-spam software you may have installed.

Jeff:
Thanks for your response. I suspect you're right on. If I
wait for awhile and try my e-mail again it usually
eventually works. So, it must be something as you say
that is unique to my network. It at times is frustrating.
However, I can usually go up to the server and retrieve
my messages if absolutely necessaty. Thanks for your
input Jeff.
