mail not being sent

I am using Microsoft Windows Mail version 6.0 with Windows Vista and Internet
Explorer 8.

When I send some emails they go through just fine. Then, for no apparent
reason, one will not go through. A copy gets put in my Sent folder and there
is nothing in the Drafts folder. But nobody receives their mail. I also
include myself as a test. I do not receive it either.

I have a Gmail account and can send mail from there without a problem, but I
want to use my Windows Mail program.

Please help me find a solution for this intermittent problem.

Typically, if the mail goes to the sent items folder, then it has left your computer and the problem is likely upstream from you. I would check with those providing you with the email address and see if there is an issue on their end. If it happens a lot, you can enable a log file under Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance and then check the log file to see if the messages are being sent.

As Steve indicated, that problem (if rare) is usually on the recipient's end.
Your message may have wound up in the recipient's webmail spam folder,
or their mail client's junk mail folder. If it starts happening with all or most
recipients, your antivirus may be interfering.

What happens when you open the Outbox folder, select that email,
then click Delete?

Thank you, Steve. I set up the log file. I just went to check what's in it
but I can't find it! Where should I look for it?

Thanks,
Sky

The log file is in the same location as the message store. That
location is given here: Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintenance,
Store Folder.
