Mail Contacts - Can WinMail auto-recognize them?

Hi all,

i'd like that when i have to add one or more contacts to a mail i'm
writing, windows mail could recognize them automatically without
having to open the contact list and select them. Is this possible?
I've seen sometimes this happens, others not at all...
