Made files private and now can't undo and allow access to the netw

Hi

I posted this a few days ago and received a response which didn't help and
now my message has disappeared.

We went away last month and had people staying in the house who were
connected to our network. I passworded the computers through 'Users' in
control panel and it asked if I wanted to make the files private and I said
yes.

Since getting home, I've been unable to make them unprivate. I have removed
the password but when I try to share the 'My Documents' folder the Make This
Folder Private is ticked and I cannot untick the box and I can't tick the
Share this folder on the network.

At the bottom it says "the options on this tab are disabled becuase this
folder is in another folder that is private". I can click on the another
folder and it opens it up but the make this folder private is still ticked
and cannot be unticked.

Please, someone, help me to share the files with the network.

It would have been *really* useful if you'd told us what the response was
that didn't help. As it stands, all I can do is point you to the usual fix:

this folder private" option

Thanks Malke for the link.

It wasn't as easy as it indicated and there were a few steps I had to do
afterwards to get it working but I couldn't have gotten there without your
link.

I was little peeved at your attitude though. People come here for help and
to ask your question about it being *really* useful if I told you the
response that didn't help. The only response I received was that there was a
folder further up had been made private and in fact, I mentioned that in my
listing.

I'm sorry that you were peeved. Perhaps you should look at it from the other
side - thousands of people coming to these Usenet newsgroups just like you
who want an answer, are annoyed with the *volunteers* who try to help them,
and who - just like you - don't provide us with enough information to help
them.

You said you had tried a fix but didn't say what the fix was. So how was I
to know what the h*ll you did so I didn't waste my time *and* yours giving
you a possibly lengthy answer when you had already tried that?!

On top of that, you multiposted all over the place, making even *more* work
for the people who try to help you.

Instead, you should get over being peeved and understand how to post for
next time. If you are serious about wanting to get good, focused help from
newsgroups, you will not be peeved by my answer and will see it as an
attempt to assist you in getting the help *you* want in the future.
