MAC's can't print anymore

Amador

We have a Windows 2000 server that is the print server for one building,
there is around 80 printers configured to this Windows 2000 server w Sp2.
Both communities , pc and mac have been printing fine for months and all the
sudden the MAC's can't no longer print using the print server, the jobs just
sits in the queue. PC are able to print fine.I restared the spooler and File
print services for MAC and still nothing. I get entries in the event viewer
for each printer.

Event 2010 Printer has been removed from Appletalk Network,

and then another one

Event 2011 Printer is now available in Appletalk Network

Nothing was change in this server for a while, so what would make this
happen, virus? corruption?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Amador!

I've seen a similar problem on a Windows NT server after a server manager
ran a lot of scripts to tighten security.

Although we never could figure out just what went wrong, we did determine
our problem was due to permissions. This could be permissions on folders,
such as the Spool folder or permissions that allow certain services to run.
If your Mac Print Service is not set to log in as the System account, try
switching it to that or troubleshooting the permissions of the account it is
using.

I'm hesitant to suggest updating to sp4 for your server since I don't like
the idea of fixing a problem by updating software, but this may be an option
if you're willing to take it.

If you find anything, please post back with your solution.

I only recently had a problem with printing from mac to
win 2k server. After upgrading to sp 4 i could no longer
print from my mac to the printer on win2k server. I made
sure all the setups were correct with system account as
well as permission issues. Was there something done in
SP4 to change this?

Hi Shaun!

The issue with Macs not being able to print after applying sp4 to a Windows
2000 server is a known issue, but I haven't seen an official acknowledgment
from Microsoft about this.

Downgrading to sp3 has been the only solution I've seen around here to fix
this.

For more posts about this problem try searching Google groups. You should
find several and I may have missed a better solution.

Hope this helps! bill

At this point the only way to restore printing for your
Macintosh clients will be to remove SP4. This issue is
under active investigation at Microsoft. We will post
more to the newsgroup when we have a final resolution for
this issue. Currently only printers like the Apple
Laserwriters, at least those with postscript and
Appletalk, are working with SP4.
