OS X clients with Win 2000 printers

How are your Macs connecting to the printers? Via Rendezvous or via
LPR? Or
are they using the server print queues still?
They are printing via rendezvous in OS X and via the chooser in
Classic mode (Appletalk)
How do I turnoff Rendezvous
If the users are still printing through the print queue, then you can
take
"authorized" users and add them to a group and grant this group print
permissions while denying all others. This can be done on a per
printer
basis.
I did this and still everyone can print.

I would simply like to make certain printers either not appear at all
or appear but if people attempt to print to them they be denied.

Hi Bill!

Most new network printers have built-in web pages for administration. Open a
web browser and enter "http://192.168.0.1" replacing 192.168.0.1 with your
printer's own IP address. If you can connect, then you should have the
ability to turn of Rendezvous and possibly restrict some permissions.

You should also turn off Appletalk on the printer as well if you don't want
Macs to see the printers in the Chooser.

This leaves TCP/IP, which must be running on the printer for your server to
connect. Your Macs can use TCP/IP too, but a user must know how to manually
set this up as well as know the IP address of the printer.

If the web page access doesn't allow a connection, you'll need to set
everything through the control panel on your printer. Either consult your
printer's documentation or look for the ability to print a menu map on your
printer.

Hope this helps! bill
