Macromedia Shockwave Player won't install

I am having problems getting Shockwave Player version 10.1.1.016 to install
on my computer. Ihave downloaded the slim version and the full version but
neither one will install. I have gone through all the solutions and nothing
seems to work. I went back and downloaded the full version. When I run it it
appears to have installed but it doesn't show up anywhere. The installation
file downloaded to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed for XP. I have tried
installing it from there and it won't open nor do any error messages appear.
I then downloaded the full version from Macromedia to my desktop and tried to
install it from there but it doesn't install. I have removed it a couple of
times with the removal tool and then reinstalled it. I have checked my
firewall and active x controls but nothing seems to work. Any help I would
appreciate it. My system is Windows XP and I have the latest Internet
Explorer. I also checked the computer administrator settings and they were
okay.

I had the same problem. I just now followed the tip on the Carey Frisch post
of 4/09/2006 to try the stand alone version. He gives the website address. It
actually worked and installed just the way it is supposed to. Try it!
