Macromedia Flash Player - MSI installer help

After having uninstalled Macrmedia Flash Player, I am trying to reinstall it
with no success. After trying everything that Macromedia's support team has
suggested, they have finally recommended that I contact Microsoft to seek
assistance on how to make the MSI Flash Player installer in my system run.
They have said that the MSI installer might be able to resolve my issue with
Flash Player.

When I used the Macromedia Flash Player download site, the download appeared
to take place but I did not see the required movie, just a big blank space
where the movie should go, and I was unable to proceed further from there in
order to install the Flash Player.

Macromedia support ultimately directed me to the standalone installer
(install_flash_player_active_x.msi), which I downloaded. However the
following message appears when I attempt to open it -

"Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a
software restriction policy. For more information, open Event Viewer or
contact your system administrator".

I am the "system administrator", according to Windows, and I have no idea
what this message means.

Any help in fixing this problem would be much appreciated.

(Perhaps I should never have uninstalled Macromedia Flash Player in the
first place, but the reason I did so was that Microsoft blamed Macromedia
Flash Player every time I reported to it that Internet Explorer had crashed.
I did not realize at the time how essential the Flash Player was to my
surfing the net and
viewing web sites, and I now want it back.)

What browser will you be using?

I'm using Internet Explorer.

i'm not sure where to look for the solution in the "XP answers and tweaks".
I'm still too much of a novice.

Hi Brian,
Try this.first from Control Panel Add-or Remove programs remove the Flash
Player and reboot. You might not have this if your player wasn't version 8.
In Internet Explorer under Tools on the Internet Explorer Tool bar-select
Internet options and a box will open.
Select the Security tab at the top. Another box opens.
Select Trusted Sites-the circle with a tick inside.
Press the button marked Sites and in the first box type
http://www.macromedia.com
Now make sure the checkbox at the bottom is unchecked
Press Add. Followed by ok until you get back to the browser window.

To test type http://www.macromedia.com into the address bar of Internet
Explorer. This opens Macromedia/Adobe's home page. You should see in the
bottom right status bar a green circle with a check mark inside. This means
the Macromedia site is considered safe by you and has negligible browser
security in place.

Can I stress that this is purely due to the fact that we entered Macromedia
as a trusted site earlier. You are not receiving something from the web
telling you its safe!!! Now as it turns out Macromedia are trustworthy and
giving them Trusted Site Status is fine, but please don't do this with every
site you use unless you are completely certain they are ok

Now that you have low security on the Macromedia site go to their home page
and click on Download Flash Player. Hopefully you will get the player
installed this time.
