Macro to reset a custom defined view for tasks

P

Phil Rabichow

Hi:
I have Outlook 2003. I've created a defined custom view for tasks, in table
format, that:
1. Is grouped by Start Date
2. Sorted by Number (a user defined field)
3. Then sorted by Reminder time.

I frequently, accidentally, (clumsily) click a column heading, which resorts
the view. Then I have to go back to Customize current view (which is still
grouped by Start Date) hunt for the Number field (under user defined fields)
to sort for it, then hunt for Reminder Time (which is under "All task
fields"), change the default sort option from descending to ascending, & OK
my way out of the dialog box.

I'm wondering if anyone has a macro that I could use to perform those
tasks. I have no experience in VBA.

If you have little VBA experience, this may be a daunting task for you.
Every MAPIFolder object has a Views collection, where you can get and update
the View.XML property if you know how to edit the schema of the view, as
referenced here:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa155658(office.10).aspx

It's far easier to work with views in code with Outlook 2007.

Hi Eric:
Thanks for responding & for the link. You're right, however, it is a daunting
task. I think what I need is an example of restoring a particular table view
for tasks (not inbox) & then see if I'm bright enough to modify it. Do you know
if that exists anywhere.

Well, thanks for the response & your time. I appreciate all the help that you
MVPs give.

Sorry, I don't know of a specific code sample for that.
