Quick way to re-customize a view

Phil Rabichow

Hi:
I have Outlook 2003 & have a customized view for tasks that:
1. Groups by Start Date
2. Sorts by Number (a user defined field) & then by Reminder Time.

Unfortunately, I frequently (clumsily) press one of the column headings at
the top, which resorts the tasks. Then I have to go back in to "Customize
current view", choose User Defined Fields to see my Number field, then go to
Task fields to find the Reminder Time (which defaults to descending, so I
change to ascending).

Is there a quicker way that I could change the current view back to the way
I want (a macro maybe)?

Define a New View and use it rather than changing the Current View. Turn on
the Advanced Toolbar and the Current View window is right there.

Hi Judy:
Thanks for the quick response. I think I may not have been clear. I did define
a view & it shows up on both the Advanced toolbar & the Navigation Pane. The
problem is that when I accidentally click a column heading, while in that view,
it changes the sort order of that defined view. Then I have to redefine it to
get it back.

Is there any way I can redefine it without going through the Customize Current
View dialog box?

Ah got it now. There's a"reset" button on the Define View window. You
can't lock a view as far as I know.

One more thing that could work is to use the Grouping function manually
(through the Group By Box from the Advanced Toolbar) and untick "show in
groups" (View | Arrange by).

Hi Judy:
Thanks for the response & information. The manual grouping won't help because I
don't lose that, even when I accidentally sort incorrectly, & because I want to
sort by 2 criteria. However, I did put the "Sort" command on the Advanced
toolbar & so, when I make a mistake, I can resort manually by "Number" & then
click the sort command to "sort then by" & choose Reminder Time, so it's not
horrible.

Since it's a custom view, the "Reset" button on Define Views... becomes a Delete
button, so I can't reset it.

Still, if you know how I could develop a macro that would change the view to
what I want, that would be great.

Thanks again. I appreciate your time.
