Yesterday I turned on my nachine; it failed to boot up. An hour later, I got
the same result. Before I turned it off two days ago, I ran a disk defrag
and checked for viruses and there were none. Question: Is this a software
problem or something with my video card/motherboard? Thanks!

We can't tell, based on the sparse information provided. At what
precise point does the boot fail? What specific error message(s) do you
get? Does the computer even complete its POST (Power On Self Test)
before starting to load the OS? What changes, if any, did you make to
the computer's hardware or software configuration immediately prior to
the onset of the problem? What specific troubleshooting steps have you
already taken, and what were the results of each?

No one can help if you don't provide at least a modicum of information.
