Mac 2005 to PC 2003 problem

Recent issue arose when opening a Mac 2005 ppt on a PC with 2003. Some
of the pages were just blank text template pages missing everything from
the client. Some pages had pie charts, bar charts, and some pages had
graphics. Curiously, opening file with PP2000 all pages displayed
correctly. Tried save as from 2000 to reopen in 2003 with no joy!

I assume you mean PowerPoint 2004 on the Mac (I don't think there is a
2005). Regardless, the solution is the same. On the PC, open PowerPoint and
go to Help menu and choose Check for Updates. Install all recommended
updates and/or service packs. This should solve the problem.

PP2004 is correct. I ran the detect and repair and check for updates,
which both seemed to do nothing. Problem still exists.

OK. I am still convinced that you do not have Service Pack 1 and/or 2
installed, but I could be wrong. Open PowerPoint on the PC, go to the
Help Menu and choose About Microsoft PowerPoint. Does the first line of
the window (which shows the complete version number) end with SP1 or SP2?
If neither, then you need to get the service packs installed. If it does
show SP1 or SP2, then we need to try something else.

I think the next tactic is to turn down hardware acceleration. See this
entry from the PPT FAQ:

How to set graphics hardware acceleration back
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm

If that doesn't help, then you might try round-tripping. See this entry
from the PPT FAQ:

HTML "Round-tripping" to repair corruption
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00526.htm

But that ones grasping at straws.

One thing I forgot to mention before the grasping-at-straws HTML round-
tripping: you might want to update the drivers for your video card from
the manufacturer's Web site.

David: thanks for your persistence, I went to MS site and manually
downloaded SP2 and installed and that seems to have fixed the problem.
Just goes to show that blind faith in some things is not right.

thanks again

Randy
