Can't edit charts when going from Mac to PC?

P

pete

I received a deck created on a Mac (either 2004 or 2008, not sure...
long story). When I open it on my PC, I cannot edit the graphs. The
graphs were created using PowerPoint's charting tool when the deck was
created. I get that "the server application, the source file, or item
is unavailable" message. This occurs when I try to open it with either
2003 or 2007.

Weirdly, there is one chart in here that I *CAN* edit (data sheet and
live chart comes up). I have no idea why this one is editable and the
others are not.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance!!!!

There are several possibilities but the most likely are that those
generating the message were inserted as Linked Objects based on their
existance in another file and/or that the objects are of a type for which
you don't have a compatible Windows program. The one that's editable is
apparently embedded in the file & is a compatible object.

What version of Office are you using? If 2003 or prior is it fully updated
with the Compatibility Pack for Open XML? Regardless of which version of PPt
was used to create the file, what is its file type [.ppt, .pptx,...]?
