lsass.exe.Error. 0x00002e1 Error

Ali Noori

I get the error following message when starting my PCD
(Only) server in my mini network at Office that I work.

lsass.exe - System Error: Security Accounts Manager
initialization failed because of the following error:
Directory Service cannot start. Error Status: 0xc00002e1.
Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into
Directory Services Restore Mode, check the event log for
more detailed information.

I have tried the soft restore / repair after booting
in "Directory
Services Restore" mode. I follow some link in
http://support.microsoft.com as like as
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;258007&Product=win2000
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;258062&Product=win2000
But I can not fix it. I verify that the permissions on the
drive are correct and Administrator and System have Full
control access. I checked it with ntdsutil -> files ->
info but every thing is Ok.
I have DNS and working without problem but my Active
Directory working but I can not open that from Active
Directory Users and Computers.
I get the error following message when starting my Active
Directory Users and Computers:
Naming information can not be located because:
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted. Contact your system administrator to verify
that your domain is properly configured and is currently
on line.

My users can log on but it takes longtime.
I do not have a backup to go back to either.

Is there a way to re-initialize the Active Directory
in "Directory Services Restore" mode from scratch?

Any help is appreciated thanks.

Have you tried using ntdsutil to check the integrity or repair the ntds.dit?
See the articles below for information about using ntdsutil for database
maintenance.
