Security Accounts Manager fails, directory services does not start

Hi,
I get the following error message on boot:
lsass.exe - System error: Security Accounts Manager
initialization failed becuae of the following error:
Directory Service cannot start. Error Status: 0xc00002e1.
Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into
Directory Service Restore Mode, check the event log for
more detailed information.
I followed the instruction outlined in MS KB (240655,
258007 and 258062) but none helped. I rebooted into
Directory Services Restore Mode and did whta MS had
suggested. No Help.
I went to Administrative tools / Services and changed the
logon poperty of the service to "Administrator" (by
browsing for the user) and supplied the password,
rebooted, but to no avail.
I really appreciate some hints/ideas.
