Low Battery Notification

Hi

I have a Toshiba Satellite with Vista.

It seems that the Low Battery Notification do not work. How / where do I
configure it?

I have been to the power options, and there are only these choices for low
battery notification:

Do nothing; Hibernate; shut down; sleep. It is the beeping sound I need when
the battery is low as in other laptops.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

If you have upgraded to Vista yourself:

Go here and select your model:

Make sure you have installed any drivers/programs that have anything to do
with ACPI or power management.

Once you have done that you might get some extra tabs to configure stuff.

Richard,

On my power options I have an entry for
Low battery notification
On battery; On/Off
Plugged in: On/Off

There is also an entry for
Low battery action
On battery: Do nothing/Hibernate/shut down/sleep
Plugged in: Do nothing/Hibernate/shutdown/sleep

That is two different locations, one for action the other for notification.
If you don't have both then try back here again and someone with more
knowledge than I have can perhaps help.

HI Michael

Thanks for the info. The Low battery notification is on.

I don't know what to set for action as I don't know which to choose.

Richard,

I have benn gone for a long weekend so late in replying.

My laptop does beep when low battery but that does not apply here as the
laptop is actually XP.

The machine that I have with Vista is a desktop Dell XPS 410, It is powered
through a battery backup system which is why it has the 'battery' setting
available. I just unplugged it and am down to 12 minutes of battery left.
Somebody is beeping about every minute, I think it is the UPS itself
however.

This is first time I have been present when 'power failure' has occured. So
am sort of interested myself as to what it will do.

Will send this now and update after I come back up.

Richard,
Power got down to 'low' level and an warning triangle icon appeared on the
'battery' icon in the system tray.
(the beeping was from the battery backup) at about 13% system began a
successful shutdown. On resume it said I should make sure system is plugged
in and that it was restarting from a critical battery shutdown.

The 'sound' for the warning and critical level were single beeps and boops
associated with actions of mouse clicks and such, so not at all obvious! You
could change the sounds (in 'Sounds' ) to something more ear catching or
even a recorded 'low battery' speech file (which is what I will do next).
