LOTS of HD space missing... Please help

Hi there,

If I right-click on my C: and click properties, it reads:
Used Space: 48,854,093,824 bytes, 45.4 GB
Free Space: 6,729,412,608 bytes, 6.26 GB

Now if I highlight all my folders in my C: and click Properties, I get:
22.1 GB (23,800,830,319 bytes) which is what I expect. I am including
all hidden files and system folders too! My Recycle Bin is only set at
1% (~530 MB)

Where did the other 26 GB go??? Can someone please explain and show me
how to get my space back. I've also done a full defrag! I don't have
much on my computer so I have no idea where the space is and how I can
restore it.

Thanks!

You are calculating only the hidden files but not the "Hide Protected
Operating System Files (Recommended)" files. They are not shown and included
in the calculation even if you had enabled "show hidden files" option from
Tools - Folder Option.

"Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)" is located under the
same window. Uncheck the option and then see the difference.

Please set the option to default as working with these files are not
recommended.

if this was helpful then let us know.

Hi,
I did uncheck the OS files, nothing is hidden, I enabled all the files
to be shown before I ran the disk size check... I also did run disk
cleanup beforehand as well, I only have 300K in Office Setup files,
that's about it!

So my 26 GB is still missing!

do a scan on your c drive. when the scan will complete it will give you a
complete description (but only if the scan is schedule the next time boot).
the summary will be shown only if the scan run at windows startup not in GUI.

one more thing, check your total disk size and unpartitioned space (if any)
through Disk Management by right clicking on My Computer - click Manage -
Disk Management.

Let us know, if anything works.

Have you emptied ur recycle bin? Do u hve Norton protected? Also deleted
ur restore points? Check those out, run chkdsk after ur cleanup and then
defrag the drive.
