How to Add GBs to Recovery disc D?

Sylvia M

I'm getting a message on my toolbar which says
"You are running out of disk space on HP_Recovery(D):
To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click
here..."

When I do this, I get 3 choices, each freeing up zero space.
I've defragged and gotten no change.
I've even said delete all but my latest update.
The Pie chart shows almost all space used.
Capacity is 8.50 GB
Free space is 32 MB

On C drive I have 51.3 GB used and 173 GB free space

I've just now disabled Quota Management on C.
D does not give me this option.

I'd be willing to add a few GBs, as I have 250GBs,
but I cannot find a way to do this on my XP Pro.
Is there any way to add GBs to Recovery D?
I would guess that they would need to come from C?

Thanks for any suggestions to keep this pop-up from nagging several
times a day!

You should'nt be using / adding anything to your recovery drive, nor should
any process be accessing D
No you dont increase the size of D
Have you created the recovery cd/dvd set yet?
If not better do so as a matter of urgency, as if your PC goes down you will
lose everything and have no means of recovery.

Yes, I have created recovery DVD.
Also backed up my files and documents on external drive.
The Recovery files are in a lock icon, untouched.
But why the nagging "running out of disk space " notice?
Should anything be adding 'stuff' to it?
Should new files be adding to it at all?

TIA

In My Computer check properties of D, ensure both Compress drive....... and
Allow Indexing are not checked.
Also that Sharing & Quota are not enabled.
In Control Panel>System>System Restore is turned off for D

No. Do you have System Restore monitoring that drive? If so, turn it
off.

Once you've made the recovery disks you can delete the recovery drive.
Your computer manufacturer may have a special program installed that
will accomplish this task.

A disk cloning backup program is much more useful than the recovery
drive or recovery disks. The recovery approach restores your computer to
the configuration it was shipped in, which differs more and more as you
add and remove programs and files.

Do not use the recovery partition for data storage - it's function is ONLY
to provide recovery and it's size is limited to space necessary to hold the
original installation.
At one time the partition was hidden so as not to be used for other purposes
or tampered with. Most EOMs provide an utility to copy the partition to
DVD/CDs and to make the partition available for usage.

<sorry to have moved you to top posting to keep continuity, Bill.>

That's worth a thought.
I'm still trying to figure out why it goes up and down as much as a
Gig...
It must be trying to do more that just stay at 'tabla rosa'...
I'm having a friend come over soon and he might figure out
better than I have, if there IS any process accessing D!
