Lost ".txt" in Right click "New" Context Menu

I just noticed that Notepad is missing from my right-click "New" menu. This
is strange
because it was always there, the option to create a .txt document in a
folder with
right click\New but it just recently disappeared.

I have TWEAK UI but for some reason, in the templates, it is no longer there
either and I can't create a new template now. I tried to add Notepad.exe, but
I get an error
message saying: "This document cannot be used as a document template."

I then downloaded and installed FRESH UI and in Fresh UI, I selected "New"
context
menu and added extention ".txt" (without the quotes) and it confirmed that I
sucessfully added the extention but it doesn't show up in the right click
"New" context menu, even
after three reboots. But oddly, it now shows up in TWEAK UI TEMPLATES list
but, not in the right-click New. And
the entry is also in the registry under HKEY classes root/ .txt there is a
SHELLNEW
entry with the Default and the NullFile where it belongs but it still
doesn't show
up in right click.

I downloaded and installed a registry fix "set context New menu to default".
It
worked on the first right click. All the programs where back again in the
Context
menu/ "New" that were missing including .TXT.(the ability to create a text
doc.) But, few seconds later, I right clicked again and they disappear again.
As if Windows XP is correcting it and removing them . All the
items disappeared except the 5 that were already there. (which were:
Briefcase, Folder, Shortcut, Microsoft word doc, and Compressed folder. )

Any suggestions?
Thanks for you help,
Angie
P.S. Someone suggested I create a new identity and log off and log on as
the new identity to see if the "New" context menu would be repopulated and it
was. Then, a few seconds later, I right-clicked again and they were all gone
except for the ones I previous mentioned.
Thanks for your help.

AWESOME! That registry fix did the trick. Interestingly, that is the same
page I got the registry fix to "restore New Context menu to default". But
the one you recommended worked. Thank you so much. I have been banging my
head against the wall for days on this one
All the best,
Angie
