Lost Sound following BIOS update

Following a recent update of BIOS from HP version 4.0 to 4.2, all audio was
lost. I have a Conexant HD soundboard in an HP dv8000 laptop. I've checked
BIOS setup; all audio hardware and software checks indicate everything is
working okay (but still no audio). Could it be Norton 360, which may have
been running when new BIOS was installed? Other suggestions?

Pardon me for stating the obvious, but if you are certain that a BIOS
upgrade from HP is the cause of your problem...have you contacted HP
technical support? This is a newsgroup for Windows XP.

Did the instructions for updating your BIOS suggest turning off
protective software during the upgrade?

I ran all the diagnostics from HP website, but have not contacted them by
phone. The instructions didn't say to turn off protective software while
installing the new BIOS; it only stated to close all programs.
