lost power while installing vista OEM

Hi, Just switched on brand new notebook with Vista pre-loaded. Vista started
to install and then notebook lost power. When I re-started, it gave message
saying "The computer restarted unexpectedly... installation cannot proceed.
To install, click "OK" to restart an dthen restart installation". Clicking
OK sends the computer into an endless loop of restarting and getting the same
error message!
The notebook didn't come with Vista discs.
Any ideas?

You should call the computer manufacturer's tech support, because you should
have a limited time period warrantee for software and hardware support. If
anyone is going to get you out of it, it will be them.

I'm confused. You say the laptop came with Vista pre-loaded, so why are you
trying to install it?
If the install started automatically the first time you turned it on, you
definitely need to call the manufacturer's tech support, or return to the
vendor for a replacement.

When I say it came pre-loaded, I mean it tried to install Vista from the HDD
when booted for the first time. I assume that this is how they come these
days. You're right, I need to call Toshiba's support. Bit of an anticlimax
after purchasing new computer!

Hi Folks, Problem solved! Toshiba advised restarting in recovery mode. Hold
zero while starting and kepp down til it beeps. Then restore factory
settings ("yes", "next" "next "next").
Thanks for help.

I definitely think an immediate replacement is in order.
Vista should have been already installed and should have started up when you
put power to the laptop. That's what pre-loaded means. My Gateway laptop
came with Vista "pre-loaded" and that meant it was ready to *use* out of the
box, not ready to install.
If it were me. I go directly back to the vendor and demand a replacement or
refund.
