lost partition/repair install

?

I did a repair install of win. xp/sp2 after some hardware maintenance.

All went well, had to do a short phone call activation. all is working good.

Questions: after all is done I do not have my 2 partitions, I know I
must have did something incorrect.

Also is it normal to have to activate at time of repair, as weight for
all to be working, as in clean install?

I ran partition software for the partition. And I did back up
everything, so I did not loose any thing.

Just wont to make it easy next time I try repair.

Also if you run repair install again can you partition the drive? Or
is partition software the best way?

Thanks For your help,

Brandy

If you change the computer hardware, then you have to reactivate.

Only a clean install will allow changing partitions.

How many partitions are showing in Disk Management?
Is the second partition formatted?

Before I made any repairs I had [2] partitions, after the repair I have
[1] partition. Answer to your question, only one partition in Disk
Management after repair. But I used a partition software after repair,
and made the second one.

I understand you have to reactivate.

Activation isn't needed unless there's been significant hardware
changes

Understand you have to activate, not the question.

Ok, can only change a partition with clean install. Had [2] partitions
before repair. What happened.

Expanding on Brandy's reply, re-formatting a hard drive represents a
"significant" hardware change since the volume serial number of the
hard drive has changed.

No new hard drive, or format. REPAIR install. What happened to
partition? What was done wrong in repair.
